More Than Just Outings: How NDIS Community Participation Funding Can Transform Your Life

April 5, 2025 • cbcadmin • 1 min read

Community participation is one of the most powerful and frequently under-utilised funding categories in an NDIS plan. Here is how to make the most of it.

What It Covers

Funded under Capacity Building — Increased Social and Community Participation, eligible activities include social clubs, adaptive sports, arts workshops, volunteering with support, social skills classes, and supported community outings.

The Evidence Is Clear

Research consistently shows active community participation reduces loneliness, improves mental wellbeing, builds confidence, and strengthens daily living skills. The Australian Government has proposed a $200 million Inclusive Communities Fund to support community organisations hosting participation activities.

Act Before October 2026

Adjustments to social and community participation budgets are flagged from 1 October 2026. Now is an excellent time to use existing funding intentionally and document outcomes to support your next plan review.
