NDIS Updates

New NDIS Plan Structure Explained: What Participants in NSW Need to Know in 2025

April 15, 2025 • cbcadmin • 2 min read

The NDIS has undergone its most significant legislative overhaul since it began, with the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill taking effect on 3 October 2024.

Plans Now Show a Total Budget

Your plan now shows a single total budget divided into stated supports (earmarked for a specific purpose) and a flexible budget (usable across any approved NDIS support).

Quarterly Funding Periods From May 2025

From 19 May 2025, new and reassessed plans release funding in three-month blocks. This does not reduce total funding — it controls when the money becomes accessible to help participants pace their spending.

An Approved Supports List

A formal list now defines exactly what the NDIS will and will not fund, removing the longstanding ambiguity that caused stress for participants and providers alike.

Lodgement Deadline for Claims

From 3 October 2025, claims must be lodged within two years of the support being delivered. Get on top of any outstanding invoices now.

What to Do

  • Review your plan and note stated versus flexible supports.
  • Talk to your Support Coordinator about quarterly funding and your service schedule.
  • Check the approved supports list at ndis.gov.au.

At Care By Carers we are across all the changes. Get in touch if you have questions about how these updates affect your supports.
